 Advent Gems #10

Rev. Lonnie C. Crowe

Isaiah :9: 6: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

He is our Counselor. The Hebrew word translated as counselor means one who advises, one with whom we can consult and find purpose. In Him, we find our purpose.

The first question asked in the Westminster Shorter Catechism is “What is the chief end (purpose) of man?”

The answer is “Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.”

We often speak of obeying God and loving GodHow often do we consider how or if our lives glorify God?  Also, too few of us realize that we are to enjoy God.

Nehemiah 8:10: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing

Joy to the Earth, the Savior reigns
Let all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders, of His love
